Marine Biology
Description
Marine biology explores the nature and ecology of marine life. The NSU master of science (M.S.), offered through the Oceanographic Center, equips students with a solid marine science background in preparation for academic careers or employment in research institutions, government agencies, or environmental consulting firms.
Requirements
The Dual Admission Program in marine biology is open to both freshmen and transfer students. Candidates are required to pursue a bachelor's degree in marine biology. They must have a 3.2 high school GPA or a 3.0 transfer GPA, as well as a combined 1050 SAT or 23 ACT score. Two letters of recommendation are also required. Freshmen should request a letter from a high school science teacher and a letter from a guidance counselor. Transfer students may obtain letters from college professors. A preadmission interview is not required.
The Dual Admission Program in marine biology normally requires four years to complete the bachelor of science. The non-thesis master’s degree generally requires two years; the master’s degree with a research thesis may take longer.
