Bridging Generations
The Lifelong Learning Institute bridges generations with activities and community projects. As a department of the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences at Nova Southeastern University, the LLI is able to tap into college and university resources to connect LLI members with student populations.
These activities have three goals. The first goal has been to counter stereotypes about senior citizens by providing younger student populations of all traditional levels with the chance to interact with, listen to, and learn from older adults in friendly settings. LLI members use these opportunities to provide a positive influence on this next generation of professionals in health care, law, and other fields.
A second goal is to encourage more NSU students to consider a career in the specializations of geriatrics or gerontology within their health care studies or other academic pursuits.
The third goal has been to strengthen the ties between LLI members and NSU beyond participation in classroom and field trip programs. This bridge creates greater inclusion of LLI members in the NSU community.
