The history program at NSU offers an extremely low student-faculty ratio with professors who have a wide variety of backgrounds and academic/research expertise. Each history student will have the advantage of individual attention from faculty on coursework and advice on life after undergraduate studies at NSU. Some of the unique history courses that have been offered in the Division of Humanities include: Terrorism and America, Origins of the Cold War, The Holocaust, The Great Depression, The Vietnam War, and Modern Middle East.
Description
The history major is designed to provide students with a background in American, European, world, and Latin American history, western civilization, constitutional history, and the intersections between history and culture. Graduates of the program will have studied one of the most interesting subjects available in a college curriculum: the human past. A history major will be proficient in research, writing, debate, analysis, and interpretation of a myriad of historical events and patterns that cross boundaries of time and geography.
The history major is offered during the day and evening on NSU’s main campus.
Learning Outcomes
A successful history graduate is expected to:
- Evaluate historical arguments;
- Analyze complex historical texts and materials;
- Identify the major periods and events of American history and either western or world history;
- Identify and explain the cultural forces and influences associated with historical events.
