The Department of Math, Science, and Technology (MST) of Farquhar Center for Undergraduate Studies offers the degree of Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems and Computer Science. Our programs are designed to meet the challenge of a relatively young, dynamic, and growing field. The curricula are updated regularly to reflect the national standards in computer and information sciences and to meet current industry needs. The computer information science field today is the fastest growing career field that shows no signs of slowing down in the next decade. If you enjoy math, science and technology and you are interested in studying database systems, networks and data communications and multimedia design, consider a major in CIS/CS. MST is dedicated to the mission of preparing students for the challenges of professional life. We seek to educate students to become thoughtful, productive members of the computing profession. We deliver high quality, accessible undergraduate courses to a diverse student population. Classes are offered on campus both days and evenings. All computer information sciences courses are limited to 20 students. Both internship and directed projects are integrated into the curricula in conjunction with local hi-tech and IT industries. Learning can be immediately applied to your career success. The Computer Information Systems Major (CIS) prepares the student for a career in the fields of business and information technology as an information systems specialist, Web developer, multimedia designer, or a network specialist. Emphasis is placed on programming languages, data structures, distributed data processing, multimedia database systems, database management, networks and data communications and information systems organization. The curriculum is consistent with recommendations for a model curriculum outlined by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). It provides a balance between fundamental computer information systems concepts and the application of these concepts from a future-oriented perspective.
