Counseling Minor

The counseling minor provides a thorough overview of the counseling and psychotherapy fields. The minor is skills-based, experiential, and theoretical. Courses focus on both theory and application to provide a preliminary understanding of the field; an exploration of individual, group, and family therapies; and incorporation of gender and cultural issues. While not the sole component in preparing students to be counselors, the counseling minor is appropriate for students planning to enter mental health fields at the bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral levels and for students whose careers will bring them into contact with mental health professionals.
