A Message from the Major Chair
Dear prospective student,
We are excited to welcome you to the humanities major, which provides an interdisciplinary perspective on the world while allowing you to focus on specific areas within the arts and humanities disciplines.
As a humanities major, you will develop a prospectus setting out your collegiate goals and meet with your mentor periodically to ensure you are achieving those goals.
Finally, a capstone course in humanities will help you draw together what you have learned from your respective courses.
Thank you for your interest in the college's humanities major.
Sincerely,
Jim Doan, Ph.D.
Professor, Humanities Major Chair
Division of Humanities
Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences
The humanities program, within the college's Division of Humanities, is a student-designed individualized program of study for students wishing to gain a broad background in the various disciplines included in the liberal arts, such as the arts, history, literature, political studies, philosophy, theater, and interdisciplinary studies. The courses in this major aid students in developing analytical and communication skills, aesthetic responsiveness, moral imagination, and intellectual integrity.
With the help of a mentor, humanities majors construct their own programs based on which areas of visual and performing arts, film, history, literature, and philosophy appeal to them.

A humanities degree can open doors to a variety of career opportunities. The program's interdisciplinary nature prepares humanities majors for opportunities in many fields. Among the corporations and organizations that favor humanities majors, according to Liberal Arts Career News, are
