Full Portfolio – Course Challenge
In our evaluation of prior learning experiences, we have been able to generalize some of these and establish standard grants. These grants are based on common documentable experiences. In specific cases, we can recognize learning experiences without prejudice as to where the learning was acquired. For example, individuals may become registered nurses (RN) through two different learning tracks. They may attend a college to gain the knowledge needed to pass the state exam or they may attend a training hospital that provides equivalent knowledge and prepares them for the same exam. Our standard grant for RN’s allows hospital-trained students to receive up to 45 credits for their learning experiences. Similarly, we award credit for paramedics, EMT’s, pilot’s license, military experience, and other specialties.
Standard grants require set policies regarding the awarding of experiential/prior learning credit, including specific types of documentation allowed. Care must be taken to avoid duplicate courses or content. The actual number of credits awarded will be based on the student’s major as well as NSU’s transfer policy.
There is a $25.00 per credit assessment fee for the evaluation process.
