Full Portfolio – Course Challenge
A full portfolio is necessary for challenging a college-level course. This allows students to present their knowledge on a topic and have it evaluated by a faculty member. The portfolio includes an autobiographical section, resume, skill inventory, and documentation section. Components of the full portfolio include:
- Course syllabus or course description
- Resume
- Autobiography, usually two to three pages in length. A good place to start is after your completion of high school.
- Skill inventory, usually four to five pages in length. This section identifies the course being challenged and describes learning experiences a student has acquired that are equivalent to the subject matter of the course.
- Documentation- This includes verification of employment, letters, certificates of training, and awards.
Once the portfolio is completed, the Assistant Director of Prior Learning Assessment reviews these materials prior to their being submitted for evaluation. If there are weaknesses in the portfolio, an appropriate faculty member encourages the student to strengthen the documentation prior to review. The process is time-consuming and requires a level of commitment from the student. Each course challenge requires a separate skill inventory and documentation. Students are encouraged to attempt one course challenge at first so that they learn what is expected. A maximum of 25% of a degree program may be earned through full portfolios.
There is a $45.00 per credit assessment fee for the evaluation process and approximately 4-6 weeks for the evaluation process. Upon completion of the portfolio, please submit it to:
