At Convocation, the undergraduate student body, NSU leadership, and faculty members join together in anticipation of a year filled with academic excellence and shared intellectual pursuit. Convocation will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at 4:00 p.m. in the Miniaci Performing Arts Center. A reception will follow at the Dr. William S. Spears Courtyard Atrium in the Carl DeSantis Building.

As part of our mission to prepare students for rich professional careers and active citizenship, the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences at Nova Southeastern University frames co-curricular programs and experiences around a broad annual theme that unites our community in interdisciplinary exploration. The academic theme for the 2008–2009 school year is "Life and Death.”

The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences invites new undergraduate students to join the inaugural first-year reading program. Participants will receive free copies of Andre Dubus III’s book House of Sand and Fog, have the opportunity to discuss the book in small reading groups led by faculty members, and hear from the author himself at Convocation.

All in the NSU community are welcome to attend Convocation. For additional information, contact the Office of the Dean in the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences at (954) 262-8068 or email convocation@nsu.nova.edu.

The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences invites new undergraduate students to join the inaugural First-Year Reading Program. This year, participants will be reading the New York Times best-selling novel House of Sand and Fog in honor of author Andre Dubus III’s visit to NSU for Convocation. Published in 2000, House of Sand and Fog was an Oprah's Book Club selection and finalist for the National Book Award. Student participants will receive a free copy of the book, which will be mailed at no charge. Students will then be divided into small reading groups, where they will have the opportunity to discuss the bookwith their peers and college faculty members. Students will also have the chance to hear from the author himself as he delivers the keynote address at NSU’s 2008 Convocation ceremony. A select group of participants will be invited to a private seminar dinner with the author.
