Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Celebrates Grand Opening of Performing and Visual Arts Wing with Weekend of Events

The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences opened its new Performing and Visual Arts Wing in the University Center with a weekend of festivities and performances October 3 through October 5, 2008.

On October 3, NSU students, faculty, and staff toured the new facilities, which span three floors and include more than 20 state-of-the-art studios and classrooms designed for music, dance, art, and theater. The college hosted interactive “creation stations,” inviting members of the NSU community to paint by numbers, learn how to dance, warm up their voices in a choir rehearsal, and participate in an assortment of other artistic activities. The college also sponsored a “Happy Hour” during Flight Deck Friday, providing food, drinks, and live entertainment from a steel-drum band. The night culminated with the initial performance of Opening Night: Say It Somehow by members of the college’s Performing and Visual Arts Program.

The next day, the college offered more tours of the wing and also held a VIP event including a private performance of Opening Night, followed by an additional evening performance for the public. On Sunday, faculty and staff joined arts students and their families for a special brunch and afternoon performance of Opening Night to conclude the weekend’s events.

The celebration also included the unveiling of the “Donor Wall” on the first floor of the University Center, which displays the names of the wing’s more than 25 founding members. The college would like to thank the following for their generous contributions: Assurant Solutions, Elaine Azen, BankAtlantic Foundation, Naomi and Vic D’Alessio, The Dauer Family Foundation, Tim Dixon, James Doan and Ron Norwood, James and Nan Farquhar, The Fortin Foundation of Florida, Inc., FPL Group Foundation, Inc., George L.
